EXHIBITION OF FRANCIS BACON & BOHUMIL HRABAL 

May 18th to July 22nd, 2012

 

For the first time

in the history of the CzechRepublic, there will be an exhibition of drawings and large-sized paintings of Francis Bacon at the Gate Gallery and Information Centre inPrague. The exhibition also offers a daring combination with the Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature. Although the two artists never met and lived in different countries and although they followed different artistic paths, Bacon and Hrabal shared a similar view of the world.

The opening ceremony on May 18th will be attended by the Italian art critic Vittorio Sgarbi, who will illustrate the 1600 oil portrait of Innocent X painted by Pietro Martire Neri, Velasquez’s favourite pupil, for the first time inPrague.

 In June… an imaginary dialogue between the two great artists will be staged by the Italian poet Maria Gloria Grifoni.

 All the participants in the exhibition can enjoy the unique opportunity to visit the Castle having access to a special path.

On request, there is the possibility of special visits to: Jewish Prague, Liberty Prague,NationalMuseum, the Pavilion of the ’900 …
